Ripon is a city located in North Yorkshire and it is one of the three smallest cities in the UK in terms of its population size. One of the main attractions in the city is Ripon Cathedral. It was originally a monastery for Scottish monks back in the 660’s. Just ten years later it was converted into a Benedictine monastery. It wasn’t until 1836 that the church represented the Diocese of Ripon as a cathedral.
Another attraction that brings people to Ripon is the weekly market that takes place on a Thursday. Over 120 stalls appear in the city selling everything from food through to gifts. Locals and visitors alike gather to take a look at the products available. It is definitely something to pop along to if you are staying in the area. Christmas time the market place is a wave of lights and decorations. Couple this with a visit to the market and you have the recipe for a wonderful Christmas shopping experience.
