How to roost on a mountain bike?

Riding a bicycle without falling over is more challenging than most people think. Here are some technical tips on how to roost using your mountain bike, that way you’ll never fall off your bike while riding again! You can read out the best beginner mountain bikes.

  1. Using front brakes: If you have rear or side handbrakes, it might be better if they are kept open during the process of standing and balancing up-side-down on top of your handlebars – especially in case you are going to be cycling a very windy road with dangerous obstacles around.
  2. Using your pedals as brakes/balancers: It’s amazing how much weight you can move using nothing but pedaling power! Simply start moving until you feel the bike losing balance, turn left or right, and keep “pushing” for some more time speeding up till another turning point in which things get worse – so that it will either rise slightly enough just to stop the falling forward or “balancing” process at least for some more time.
  3. Jumping from a rock: If you happen to find yourself in that kind of situation when you’ve been trying every other measure and still can’t stay balanced, all it will take is one quick jump from a high place and your bike should fall down as well as stand up again – which might be enough to keep it stable until you get back and land on your feet, to the side of the road or trail.

“Whiplash + spinning” will also act as an extra brake when you go really fast and can be used in case something overtakes you while going down at high speed is near – but it’s quite hard to maintain it for longer periods without getting exhausted…

  1. Use a bike that has a higher seat position! This tip doesn’t apply for places where you shouldn’t go out at all (risk of getting seriously injured), but in most places would be a good idea because going downhill on your bike with a lower seat position will make it harder to keep balance on the way down – so instead use a mountain bike or hybrid that have near-flat handlebars if possible and stay up high.
  2. Practice: Get used to your bike and learn how you can control it in every situation – like leaning back as much as needed when going at high speed; switching from first gear to second or third one will almost clear any obstacle, so be prepared for some unexpected tests.

Always look up before crossing streets, rivers, stony places, etc. Also, pay close attention not only behind but also on both sides of yourself while riding! It’s very easy to get surprised when someone suddenly appears from behind or you unexpectedly find yourself on the roadside.

  1. Have fun: If anything has gone wrong, it’s still possible to have a few moments of pure adrenaline rush – which often makes everything ok in the end! Adventurous riding can be such an awesome experience – go out and trail run near your house (or wherever else you dare) with those kilometers that are hardly accessible by car, drive along country roads, take your bike to the nearest shop and pretend you’re a bicycle lunatic.

Is it better to go fast or slow when you’re roosting?

Something that comes to my mind when revising mountain biking safety tips is going fast or slow. If you were really serious about getting hurt, would it be better for you just to ride a trotting bike?

You’d better choose the latter unless this were absolutely necessary. Stay within your limits and avoid severe injury by trying not to slap yourself in the face whenever possible with flat parts of your tires! To me, speed seems like something very risky to play with.

Safety tips

It’s crucial to ride your bicycle safely and responsibly. Here are a few things that you should always keep in mind:

  1. Manners! Ride well behaved. It can still happen for the most unexpected reasons – like hitting another cyclist or riding into traffic (be sure there is no one close enough than yourself before passing by cars). You could easily end up seriously hurt due to being careless.
  2. Obey road rules! It will be your best help if you just stay on the right side of the track when passing through traffic. The same applies in case there are mounted police or other official people driving around; no matter how risky it may seem, don’t go against the law – they can stop you at any time!
  3. Keep up your balance: If an unexpected phenomenon happens – like a steep part with potholes or ice, for example (that is not uncommon!). Balance on your bike is crucial and will save you. Try standing still for a moment when the surface changes to something easier that can make it difficult to balance (like sand or water-logged mud). The trick lies in making yourself stable on the suspension fork, taking the firm foot of pedals, and not falling over backward!
  4. Make sure your brake pads are at least two front wheels width deep into their housing – this way, they won’t get jammed with mud or dirt when riding over uneven ground.
  5. make sure that your tires aren’t torn too much (if you are planning to race, check the tread by pressing down with a screw until the end of it; if there are bald patches, most likely it’s time for new ones). It would be best if you have a tire pressure gauge at hand so that in case of emergency repairs can immediately fix and adjust your pressures, but please bear in mind that lack of pressure may easily result in a flat tire – if too low your bike won’t react properly when braking (being under its optimal limit) it might wobble or even stop being responsive altogether.
  6. Don’t make unnecessary stops on steep roads: The moment you start accelerating is a signal for the tires to get off the ground and return quickly as soon as there are not enough forces pressing down from above.
