Depending on the surface of the wood, you can remove the paint in one way or another. Here we explain which are the three simplest and most effective possibilities.

1. Remove paint with a chemical stripperHow to remove paint from wood

First of all, a chemical stripper is a normally liquid product that is used to remove traces of paint, varnish, enamels, or glues. It can be used on different materials such as wood, concrete, metal, tiles, or glass. This product is effective for removing thick or thin layers of paint. Its application on wood is very simple. You only need a brush and a scraper or abrasive wool to remove the paint from the wood.

The first thing you have to do is place the wood or furniture on which you are going to work in a ventilated place and use protective glasses and gloves. This will prevent the smell of the stripper from settling in the space or can harm you.

The next step is to remove the product (it is important that you do so both at the beginning of the job and during it). When you have everything ready, apply the stripper with the brush on the wooden surface. Try to apply thick, regular, and one-way coats to make it easier to perform.

When you have applied the stripper to the entire surface of the wood, let it act for between 5 and 30 minutes, depending on the manufacturer’s instructions. When the paint begins to break, remove it with a scraper.abrasive wool or steel shavings. Depending on the amount of material or type of wood, you will have to apply several times or leave it on for a longer time.

2. Remove paint with a hot air stripperHow to remove paint from wood

The hot air gun, stripper gun heat gun is a tool that, despite not being so well known, is very useful for any type of job that requires removing paint. It can be used to strip furniture, remove adhesives, defrost pipes in the open air, join objects, or dry surfaces.

We recommend using the hot air stripper to remove paint from more or less large surfaces since its application is faster than that of the chemical stripper.

As in the previous case, organize yourself to work in a ventilated place and protect yourself to avoid possible injuries from the heat. You should also make sure the wood is not damp before starting the job. Apply the heat with circular movements always at a distance of 15-20 centimeters from the wood to avoid points of heat and not run the risk of burning parts of the wood.

Remove the paint when you start to notice that it wrinkles with the help of a scraper or spatula. Finally, to achieve a perfect finish, sand the wood with sandpaper to remove any debris that may have remained on the surface.

3. Remove paint with a sander or sandpaper

The last option we propose is to use an electric sander or sandpaper to remove paint. This is a more well-known tool than the hot air gun, it is not usually missing among the essentials of any DIYer.

Sandpaper is often used to remove thin layers of paint. If you find yourself in this situation, we recommend that you first pass the surface of the wood with coarse-grit sandpaper and then polish it with a finer one. Remember not to press too hard on the wood to avoid imperfections.

If, on the other hand, the layer of paint to be removed is thicker, you will obtain a faster and more efficient result using an electric sander. As in the case of the chemical stripper, always apply the movement in the same direction since, with the electric sander, you can obtain an unwanted texture, and when you remove the paint you will discover that the wood has been damaged.

These are the most effective methods of removing paint from wood. Remember to always follow all the steps one by one to avoid unwanted results. We hope that the post has helped you and that, from now on, you will not resist any type of wood to remove the paint.
