The period dramas that we love to binge-watch

As human beings, we love to look back at the past and reminisce or be thankful that we have progressed into a new age. This is one of the many reasons that we like to watch period dramas. There have been many of them over the years that have captivated large audiences week after week. Of course, to be able to fully enjoy them, you might need a new TV aerial and a TV aerial installation Bristol company like https://aerial-installations-bristol.co.uk/ can help you with this.

Call The Midwife – set in 1950s East End, London, the series follows the lives of a group of midwifery nurses as they learn to care for the pregnant women in their communities. Along the way, we see the difficulties that some of them face and how society changed during the 50s and 60s. The show has been so popular that it is now in its 11th season.

Gentleman Jack – this series is based on diaries that were written by Anne Lister, who was a Regency landowner. It is set in Yorkshire in 1832 and documents her life as a lesbian. During this time, it would have been incredibly taboo to be a lesbian, and it is why many of her diary entries were written in a secret code. The first series was so popular that a second one has been commissioned and will air in April 2022 on BBC 1.

The Crown – following the lives of the Royal family, the Crown has become one of the most-watched period dramas on television. It centres around the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and her life both as a royal and head of state as well as a mother and, later on, grandmother. The drama began by covering the period of time from Elizabeth II marrying Prince Philip, and the final series will culminate with her life in the 21st Century. There has been some controversy around the series, with some reports that members of the royal family have not been entirely happy about how some events have been portrayed.

Over the years, there have been other period dramas such as Pride and Prejudice and To The Manor Born that have captivated viewers for many years. Some of these have proved so popular that they are regularly shown on repeat on a variety of television channels.
