A lot of people who retire also feel a bit lost as they miss their daily routine and sense of purpose – going from working every day to not doing so any longer can be a hard adjustment to make and it is understandable that this can be difficult.
Tackling this is something that you can do in many different ways – if you are coming up to retirement and this is something that you are worrying about, here are some great ways to keep that routine and sense of purpose in your life through your retirement…
Spending time with Family – If you have family nearby, how about spending some more time with them? If you have grandchildren this is a great time to spend some quality time with them, and their parents will probably also be really thankful of a break. Have them over for tea or pick them up from school for example – help with childcare will always go down well with parents and you will get some quality time with younger family members too.
Volunteering – This is a great way to keep a routine and have something to get up for in the morning as well as to put something back into your community or a cause that you feel strongly about. There are loads of great opportunities to volunteer – helping to clean up and look after the local green spaces for example, helping out with homeless people or working in a charity shop. There are just so many options you are bound to find something to suit you.
Learn Something New – Learning a new skill is a great thing to do and you now have the time to do it! You could join a group and learn a musical instrument for example, or if you fancy seeing more of the world, why not learn a new language? Arts and crafts are also a good thing to learn and can be really good therapy if you are feeling a bit down, so have a look for some classes and clubs near you and see what takes your fancy!
Get a Pet – Pets are great companions, and if you have always wanted a dog or a cat but simply haven’t had the time now is your chance! Sharing your life with a pet is rewarding and comforting and you will probably be able to find your new best friend at a rescue centre so will be helping them as they help you!
