BMW X5: Luxurious inside, imposing outside

The latest generation of the SUV represents the perfect mix of elegance, sportiness and technology. 2018 was a key year for BMW’s X model range. In addition to the launch on the market of the X2, the Sport Activity Coupe with compact dimensions, in fact, the fourth generation of the BMW X5 is the model with which BMW made its debut in 1999 in the SUV segment.

Built like the previous ones in the Spartanburg plant, the new X5 brings with it many mechanical innovations such as the two-axle air suspension, the four-wheel steering and the off-road package and technological with the innovative driver assistance systems. The engine range also saw the debut of the 530 HP petrol-powered V8 biturbo at a later date.

BMW X5: Dimensions

The impressive dimensions of the new BMW X5 increase significantly compared to the previous generation. The length measures 4 meters and 92 centimeters (36 mm more), the width exceeds 2 meters (66 mm more) while the height is 1 meter and 75 centimeters (19 mm more). The wheelbase of almost 3 meters, increased by 42 millimeters, manages to give excellent habitability on board. In this regard, the only flaw is represented by the presence of the massive central tunnel that extends into the rear of the car, making the central seat of the sofa uncomfortable. The boot capacity is also similar to that of direct competitors with a load volume ranging from 650 to 1,870 liters.

The larger dimensions than in the past give the BMW X5 a dominant appearance on the road, to which the design of the new double kidney in the front also contributes, whose proportions have increased significantly. The optical groups now rely on modern Full LED Laserlight technology with a range of 600 meters.

The rear is characterized by a decisive appearance with the protruding part under the rear window, which is streamlined by the thin and horizontal headlights with a three-dimensional design.

BMW X5: Interior

The interiors of the BMW X5 are characterized by the typical quality of the premium models of the Munich company thanks to refined materials and well-finished finishes. The horizontally developed dashboard is equipped as standard with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with 12.3 ”display combined with a touchscreen of the same size as the new infotainment system 7.0 which includes the personal assistant on board and from which they can be controlled all the functions of the car.

In the central position, next to the button of the four arrows, the command for total or partial activation / deactivation of the driver assistance systems that guarantee the X5 a second level autonomous driving level stands out.

BMW X5: Engines

The BMW X5 is offered with a wide range of engines. Petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains are in fact available. Among the first we find the 40i, a 3-liter inline 3-cylinder 340 HP and the M50i, a 4.4-liter V8 with a power of 530 hp capable of triggering this beast from 0-100 km / h in just 4.3 seconds. As for diesel, BMW offers the 25d, 30d and M50d with powers of 231, 265 and 400 hp respectively. The plug-in hybrid powertrain combines the 3.0 turbocharger with an electric motor for a combined power of 394 hp. A 21.58 kWh lithium-ion battery, rechargeable “on tap”, powers the electric unit.
